Pathfinder Drone Honor, Nov 14: how students should prepare

October 14, 2026 · 3 min read · By Felix Nieto II, FAA Part 107 remote pilot

The class

Saturday, November 14, 2026, at Mount Aetna Retreat Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. The exact time will be announced. All details live on the Drone Honor page.

The ready-to-fly path

  1. Study: read the FAA's Fly SMART steps.
  2. Get your recreational certificate: take TRUST at home before class (30 to 45 minutes). Free Drone Test
  3. Take the class: we spend it on safety, skills and supervised flying, not testing.
  4. Earn the honor at the class.
  5. Ready to fly.

What to bring

  • Your TRUST certificate, printed or on a phone
  • The signed waiver. Everyone in the flight area signs; parents sign for under-18s
  • Field uniform, water, a hat and sunscreen

How flight safety works

The flight session runs under our instructor's FAA Part 107 certificate in a marked flight area with a spectator line. One drone flies at a time and never over people. Personal drones can fly after class only with the instructor's approval, inside the flight area.

The camp is near Camp David. If a presidential flight restriction is active that day, we'll run the ground portion only, and we check that the week of and the morning of the class.

Want your own drone?

A light sub-250 g trainer is the best first drone. Ask us at Professional Drones & Gaming and we'll match one to the student.
